वो हसरत-ए-बहार न तूफ़ान-ए-ज़िंदगी
आता है फिर रुलाने को अब्र-ए-बहार क्यूँ
आलाम-ओ-ग़म की तुंद हवादिस के वास्ते
इतना लतीफ़ दिल मिरे परवरदिगार क्यूँ
जब ज़िंदगी का मौत से रिश्ता है मुंसलिक
फिर हम-नशीं है ख़तरा-ए-लैल-ओ-नहार क्यूँ
जब रब्त-ओ-ज़ब्त हुस्न-ए-मोहब्बत नहीं रहा
है बार-ए-दोश हस्ती-ए-ना-पाएदार क्यूँ
रोना मुझे ख़िज़ाँ का नहीं कुछ मगर 'शमीम'
इस का गिला है आई चमन में बहार क्यूँ
